Can IMERG Data Capture the Scaling of Precipitation Extremes With Temperature at Different Time Scales?

چکیده

This study evaluates the validity of Integrated Multisatellite Retrievals for Global Precipitation Measurement (IMERG) in scaling extreme precipitation with temperature (termed factor, SF). To this end, we use Hadley-Integrated Surface Database (HadISD) data set at 1-hourly, 6-hourly, and 24-hourly scales between 2000 2020 over contiguous United States (CONUS) as a reference set. Our findings reveal that IMERG can capture changes extremes scales, especially dry regions. The difference IMERG's SF HadISD's 6-hourly scale is less than 0.3%/°C areas. However, underestimates wet regions, 1-hourly scale, up to ∼5%/°C. It found performance dependent on temperature, particularly scale. overestimates precipitations when temperatures are below 5°–11°C while opposite true higher temperatures, indicating need considering adjusting IMERG.

Evaluation of Error in IMERG Precipitation Estimates under Different Topographic Conditions and Temporal Scales over Mexico

This study evaluates the precipitation product of the Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for Global Precipitation Measurement (IMERG) over the Mexican region during the period between April 2014 and October 2015 using three different time scales for cumulative precipitation (hourly, daily and seasonal). Also, the IMERG data have been analyzed as a function of elevation given the rain gauges ...

Influence of microphysics on the scaling of precipitation extremes with temperature

The Lin-hail microphysics scheme is based on Lin et al. (1983) as modified by the Goddard Cumulus Ensemble Modeling Group (Tao and Simpson, 1993; Braun and Tao, 2000). It includes six classes of water species representing water vapor, cloud water, cloud ice, rain, snow and hail. The size distributions of the precipitating species (rain, snow and hail) are assumed to follow an exponential distri...

Can IMERG Precipitation Estimates Suitably Replace TMPA Products For Brazil?

Knowledge of the spatial and temporal distribution of precipitation is of key importance for planning a wide range of socio-economic activities such as agriculture, livestock grazing, energy generation, etc. The availability of accurate and consistent precipitation data is then paramount for the proper assessment of such activities. However, traditional rain gauge measurements are relatively sc...

Evaluation of Satellite Precipitation Products with Rain Gauge Data at Different Scales: Implications for Hydrological Applications

Rain gauge and satellite-retrieved data have been widely used in basin-scale hydrological applications. While rain gauges provide accurate measurements that are generally unevenly distributed in space, satellites offer spatially regular observations and common error prone retrieval. Comparative evaluation of gauge-based and satellite-based data is necessary in hydrological studies, as precipita...
